today in class i was asked a question that i have never been asked before.
the conversation went as follows.
b = me.
g = girl.
g: are you native?
b: uhh..what?
g: are you native?
b: you mean...? oh, no. i'm ecuadorian.
g: oh, well just asked becuase i noticed you wear lots of turquoise and your shoes...
b: (looks down at her feet, lo and behold, she is wearing her beaded indian pattern sandals).
first of all.
please join me in a giant laugh.
now, let us ponder this question.
can a half brown girl not wear a turquoise ring and indian sandals without being asked if she's a native american these days?
i mean honestly...
we look nothing alike.
and the only thing poca and i have in common
{besides our turquoise jewelry, sandals, brown skin, moccasins
and painting with every color of the wind}
and painting with every color of the wind}
is our unnatural tendency to go with the blonde white man.

brissa. i love you. this is hilarious. i'm native, maybe she asked because you know me, only no one knows i'm native because my irish side TAKES OVER!
bahaha! so freaking funny! at least she gave you a specific heritage! i always get this "Um, so like what are you?"
