another little sting just pricked your heart.
with all these little holes,
it's a surprise the bleeding hasn't started.
while the punctures are shallow
and the sting fades quickly,
there is a clinging fear that a million little pokes
will do a lifetime of damage.
only time will tell.
as you watch life unfold,
reinforce your shield to protect from piercing,
and hope that this will disappear as quickly as it began.
